Event -- PLATFORM WORKERS APPRECIATION DAY 2026 @ JALAN KAYU SINGLE MEMBER CONSTITUENCY

Emcee -  Emcee Shirleen

On 15th July 2026, the Platform Workers Appreciation Day 2026 was held at the Fernvale Community Club, Level 4 Multi-Purpose Hall. This event, organised by NTUC for the Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency, was a significant occasion to honour the contributions of delivery riders, taxi drivers, and private-hire vehicle drivers.

Guiding the event seamlessly was the emcee, Shirleen, who kept the atmosphere engaging as platform workers arrived to explore various engagement booths and enjoy refreshments. The highlight of the afternoon was the arrival of Secretary-General of NTUC and Grassroots Adviser to Jalan Kayu SMC Grassroots Organisations, Mr. Ng Chee Meng. He mingled with the workers at the booths, taking the time to connect with them personally before he departed around 3:00 PM, with the event continuing on. As the emcee, Shirleen ensured that the programme flowed smoothly, making sure the attendees felt recognised and valued throughout the day.

This event is NTUC's way of celebrating and uplifting the hard work of our platform workers who keep Singapore moving. The event was designed to connect these workers with partners offering special deals and support, recognising their tireless efforts in delivering passengers and goods safely. The emcee highlighted the importance of the day, noting that it's about more than just appreciation—it's about connecting workers to the benefits and protections they deserve.

At the heart of this event and the broader support structure is the NTUC union, which plays a crucial role in championing the rights and welfare of all workers in Singapore. NTUC works tirelessly through its affiliated unions and associations to protect workers' rights and advocate for their interests . This includes representing workers in collective bargaining, negotiating for better wages and benefits, and providing support through various schemes . For platform workers specifically, NTUC has been a strong advocate, lobbying for over a decade for the landmark Platform Workers Act which came into effect in 2025, offering stronger protections . The emcee frequently reminded attendees of these vital support systems, reinforcing that NTUC is committed to every worker mattering.

NTUC’s role extends to ensuring financial protection for workers through work injury compensation, improving housing and retirement adequacy via CPF contributions, and providing enhanced representation through its affiliated associations like the National Taxi Association (NTA), National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHVA), and National Delivery Champions Association (NDCA) . As the emcee explained to the attendees, this event was a platform to showcase these benefits, from exhibition banners detailing achievements like the 30-minute parking grace period for motorcyclists at CapitaLand malls, to information on the NTUC Care (Work Injury Relief) scheme that provides financial assistance to eligible members . The event also addressed key issues such as road safety, health and well-being, and upskilling opportunities, demonstrating NTUC's holistic approach to supporting platform workers in their careers and personal lives.
