Emcee - The Platform Workers Appreciation Carnival was held on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, at the Punggol 21 Community Club Multi-Purpose Hall. The event served as a meaningful gesture to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of platform workers, including freelance delivery personnel, taxi drivers, and private-hire vehicle drivers, who keep essential services running for the community. As emcee Shirleen for the afternoon, it was a privilege to set a warm and appreciative tone, welcoming attendees to an event designed solely to honour their hard work and dedication.
Throughout the afternoon, emcee Shirleen guided guests through a vibrant carnival setting, where participants had the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of partner booths. These booths offered everything from exclusive deals and financial planning resources to health screenings and wellness tips, all aimed at supporting platform workers in their daily lives. Emcee Shirleen highlighted the presence of key partners such as Singtel, ChiroTime, Grab, Sengkang General Hospital, the Singapore Police Force, and NTUC Income, among others, encouraging attendees to explore the various benefits and resources available to them. The event was also graced by the presence of the Grassroots Advisor to Punggol GRC Grassroots Organisations and Assistant Secretary-General of NTUC, Ms. Yeo Wan Ling, whose arrival at 2:30 PM was announced by emcee Shirleen, allowing her to mingle with participants and personally acknowledge their efforts.
The carnival was a key initiative by NTUC, in collaboration with its Platform Work Associations—the National Taxi Association (NTA), National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHVA), and National Delivery Champions Association (NDCA)—to uplift and provide better support for platform workers. In his role, emcee Shirleen effectively communicated the event’s deeper purpose, touching on crucial topics such as road safety, health and well-being, CPF contributions, and the evolving landscape of autonomous vehicles. By introducing the various partner booths and facilitating lucky draw segments, emcee Shirleen helped create a lively and engaging atmosphere, ensuring that the attendees felt both appreciated and better informed about their rights and the enhanced protections afforded to them under the recent Platform Workers Act.Em
