Emcee - The Association of Singapore Marine and Offshore Energy Industries (ASMI) celebrated its 28th Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Convention on 12th May 2026 at the Trade Association Hub in Jurong Town Hall. This annual convention is a cornerstone of ASMI’s mission to drive excellence in safety across the marine and offshore energy sectors. ASMI serves as the leading trade association for the industry, championing the interests of its members by fostering best practices, facilitating capability development, and promoting innovation, with workplace safety and health being a paramount priority. The event was a vibrant platform to showcase the sector’s collective commitment to protecting its workforce, and from the very start, Emcee Ivan warmly welcomed guests, sponsors, and participants, setting a tone of collaboration and forward-looking progress.

Emcee Ivan officially commenced the proceedings by inviting ASMI WSH Committee Chairman, Mr. Chandrasehgaran Seetharaman, to deliver the opening address, which underscored the industry's unwavering dedication to safety innovation. Following this, the audience was treated to the first of two segments of project presentations from ten teams competing for the prestigious WSH Innovation Awards. These presentations highlighted groundbreaking solutions in areas like robotic inspection and safety detection systems, demonstrating the sector's ingenuity. As the first four teams presented, Emcee Ivan expertly kept the programme on track, building anticipation for the arrival of the Guest of Honour, Mr. Abu Bakar Bin Mohd Nor, Chairman of the WSH Council, who was greeted by a formal welcome party at the drop-off point.

A brief tea break followed, during which Emcee Ivan guided the attendees, encouraging them to visit the exhibition booths and noting that the Guest of Honour would be conducting an informal networking and photo session with exhibitors and the innovation teams on the floor. After this engaging interval, Emcee Ivan called everyone back to their seats, and the convention resumed with a highly anticipated address from the Guest of Honour, Mr. Abu Bakar Bin Mohd Nor, who shared key insights on national WSH strategies. Emcee Ivan then facilitated a ceremonial moment as the GOH presented a token of appreciation to the ASMI WSH Committee members, including Chairman Chandra, Deputy Chairmen Alexis Chee and Eddie Toh, and other members, in recognition of their dedicated service to the industry.

The second half of the innovation team presentations then commenced, featuring six more teams. Emcee Ivan seamlessly managed the flow, which included showcasing video presentations from teams unable to attend in person, ensuring every innovation was given its moment. After a final tea break, the convention shifted focus to a series of expert sharing sessions. Emcee Ivan introduced four distinguished speakers who covered critical topics, including fire investigations by Mr. Liu Xianbin, safety in commercial diving by Ms. Nadia Ramdan, managing occupational diseases by Ms. Ashwiyni, and mental well-being by Mr. Cheang Chee Kit and Mr. Dannie, providing the audience with a holistic update on industry safety challenges and solutions.

The afternoon culminated in the presentation of awards, a moment of celebration expertly orchestrated by Emcee Ivan. He called upon WSH Committee Chairman Mr. Chandra to present the WSH Supervisor Awards and the WSH Innovation Awards. Winners and finalists, including teams from companies like Seatrium, ST Engineering Marine, and PaxOcean, were lauded for their achievements. Emcee Ivan also guided the presentation of tokens of appreciation to the preliminary and final round judges, including representatives from MOM and the WSH Council, as well as to the event’s sponsors, Ailytics, Draeger Singapore, and Safety Innovators. In his closing remarks, Emcee Ivan thanked all participants, reminded WSH officers to sign out for their SDU points, and directed attendees to the exhibition booths, which remained open until 6pm, bringing a highly successful and impactful convention to a formal close.
