Emcee - The emcee, Shirleen, warmly welcomed attendees to the Shaping Hearts 2025 event held at Gardens by the Bay, outside the Flower Dome, on 21 June 2025. The emcee highlighted the significance of the inclusive arts festival, which celebrated the creativity, resilience, and talent of artists with disabilities, now in its seventh edition. Organized by North East CDC in partnership with Gardens by the Bay and SMRT, the event featured a roving exhibition themed "Garden City Perspectives" to commemorate SG60, showcasing nearly 250 artworks inspired by Singapore’s cityscape and floral motifs.
The emcee introduced a captivating live painting demonstration by Thaddeus Chew from Extra∙Ordinary People, an artist on the autism spectrum known for his imaginative illustrations of wildlife and prehistoric creatures. As the emcee guided the audience through the creative process, attendees were treated to a mesmerizing saxophone performance by Cheong Cher Hing from ART:DIS, a talented musician who is Hard of Hearing. The emcee emphasized how his melodies beautifully complemented the garden setting.
A highlight of the event was the arrival of the Guest-of-Honour, Mr. Baey Yam Keng, Mayor of North East District and Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and Ministry of Transport. The emcee also acknowledged the presence of Mr. Lam Sheau Kai, President of SMRT Trains, and Mr. Felix Loh, CEO of Gardens by the Bay. The emcee encouraged attendees to explore the exclusive Shaping Hearts merchandise, including the debut of SG60-themed tumblers designed by Thaddeus Chew, and over 700 original artworks available for purchase.
In her closing remarks, the emcee reflected on the festival’s mission to celebrate the strength and creativity of artists with disabilities, turning challenges into hope and limitations into art. She invited guests to continue supporting the artists by visiting the main exhibition at Our Tampines Hub in September and following the event’s social media pages. The emcee expressed gratitude to all attendees for their presence and concluded the event on a heartfelt note.
