Emcee - The event summary for the Platform Workers Appreciation Event, held on Thursday, 23 April 2026 at the Kolam Ayer Community Club Multi-Purpose Hall, was professionally guided by the emcee, Ivan who ensured a seamless flow throughout the afternoon. The emcee Ivan warmly welcomed all platform workers, including freelance delivery persons, taxi drivers, and private-hire vehicle drivers, recognising their essential contributions to the community. The event was graced by Dr. Wan Rizal, Grassroots Adviser to Jalan Besar GRC Grassroots Organisations (Kolam Ayer) and Director of Stakeholder Management, Career Services and Partnership Group (CSPG) at NTUC’s e2i, whose presence underscored the importance of celebrating these workers.
Emcee Ivan articulated that NTUC Union organised this appreciation event to honour platform workers for their daily services and to address key challenges such as road safety, health and well-being, CPF contributions, and job skills development. NTUC Union champions the rights and welfare of all workers, including platform workers, by providing formal representation through its Platform Work Associations—the National Taxi Association (NTA), National Private Hire Vehicles Association (NPHVA), and National Delivery Champions Association (NDCA). As the emcee explained, NTUC negotiates for better earnings, welfare, and work prospects, and since the introduction of the Platform Workers’ Act in 2025, NTUC has been instrumental in ensuring financial protection for work injuries, improved housing and retirement adequacy, and enhanced representation for platform workers.
Throughout the carnival, the emcee directed participants to various partner booths, including Singtel, ChiroTime, Health Promotion Board, CPF Board, Singapore Police Force, and foodpanda, where workers could access exclusive deals, road safety tips, health screenings, and financial guidance. The emcee also announced a lucky draw, adding a festive spirit as platform workers collected their gifts and engaged with jobs ambassadors and SkillsFuture advisors. A closed-door chit-chat session facilitated by Dr. Wan Rizal with selected delivery riders took place earlier, and the emcee later invited the Grassroots Adviser to mingle with attendees at the booths, reinforcing the event’s community-focused atmosphere.
In closing, the emcee expressed deep gratitude on behalf of NTUC Union to all platform workers for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the event. The emcee reminded everyone that NTUC remains committed to uplifting platform workers through continuous advocacy, partnership-driven support, and practical benefits that ease their daily lives. The event ended on a positive note, with the emcee encouraging workers to stay connected with NTUC and its associations for ongoing resources and representation.
